Like The Typing of the Dead before it, English of the Dead is an educational game which uses The House of the Dead 2's engine. Exclusive to the DS, the gameplay assists Japanese speakers to learn English by using the series' zombies in helpful ways. Typing videogame originally released in japanese arcades in 1999, later ported to the Sega Dreamcast and PC in 2000 (2001 for west). It's a modification of the light gun game, The House of the Dead 2, which the gun is replaced to a computer keyboard, where you must type words and phrases to kill the enemies. The House of the Dead is a horror gun rail shooter game that features the brain eating and dangerous zombie and - you guessed it!- they are your prey. The plot is a pretty typical and uninspired one, about a horde of undead people led by Caleb Goldman, who is an evil crazy scientist. Except zombies, there are also cool and scary monsters.

The next retrospective from SEGA Forever has arrived, and this time it’s all about The House of the Dead!

The video focuses mainly on the original arcade series, running from The House of the Dead all the way up to the most recent game in the original canon, Scarlet Dawn. That said, a nod is given to Overkill and even Pinball of the Dead; and they even give some love to The Typing of the Dead II, a great game that flew under the radar compared to its predecessor.

Each title also has the list of platforms it’s available on listed alongside it; very handy for those looking to shoot some mutants at home. We’re really loving this series, and we can’t wait to see what gets the retrospective treatment next!
